An overview of some of the key implementations and procedures found within our Department of Respiratory Medicine:
- Diagnostic Services: This includes various diagnostic procedures aimed at identifying respiratory conditions accurately. Common diagnostic tests conducted include pulmonary function tests (PFTs) to assess lung function, bronchoscopy to visualize the airways and collect tissue samples, and imaging studies such as chest X-rays, CT scans, USG scans and MRI scans.
- Treatment Modalities: The department offers a range of treatment options tailored to the specific needs of patients. This involve prescribing medications such as bronchodilators, corticosteroids, antibiotics, antifibrotics and ATT(both for drug sensitive and drug resistant TB management of adverse drug reactions)depending on the underlying conditions.
- Interventional Procedures: In addition to diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, we perform various interventional procedures to manage respiratory conditions. These procedures include pleural procedures (e.g., USG guided thoracentesis) for pleural effusions and intercostal drainage tube insertions in case of pneumothorax/empyema/hydropneumothorax/haemorrhagic pleural effusions etc.
- Research and Education:. Academics and Research activities, including Seminars, Journal clubs, Case presentations, Guest Lectures, CMEs and workshops are being held regularly along with optimum patient care for the best education of our postgraduates. Our department also has a varied collection of international and national journals and all the NMC prescribed recent edition books in the departmental library for the post graduates and the faculties.
